hdr How to Lighten Lips

A beautiful smile comes at a premium, it often being the first thing someone notices about you. You may already have those sparkling pearly whites, but what frames that smile?

Healthy, rosy pink lips not only enhance your smile, but also give your overall look a more youthful glow. If you’re looking for a way to lighten your lips, look no further. There are several home remedies you can try to give yourself a more naturally kissable pout.

What Causes Lips to Darken?

Unfortunately, like the rest of our skin, there are many factors that can cause your lips to darken. Several factors can lead to darker lips such as:

•  Genetics
•  Excessive sun exposure
•  Pollution
•  Allergies
•  Skin conditions such as dermatitis and jaundice
•  Hormonal imbalances
•  Smoking/chewing tobacco
•  Caffeine
•  The use of low quality cosmetics
•  Aging

Home Remedies to Lighten Lips

If you want to enhance the appearance of your lips or give them a more pinkish hue, there are many remedies you can try at home that are safe and easy to use. Give some of them a try and see which one works best for you.

Lemon

Lemon is famous for its lightening properties, and fortunately, this sunny citrus fruit can also transform the appearance of dark lips. The alpha-hydroxy and citric acids safely slough off the top dead layers of skin while the bleaching properties safely lighten the skin of your lips. This treatment is the most popular remedy for soft, supple, pink lips.

  • Simply apply the juice of a lemon to your lips before going to bed. Don’t rinse off.
  • If you want to enhance the exfoliating abilities of lemon, squeeze the juice from a lemon into a small container and add some sugar.
  1. Dip a clean finger into the mixture and gently rub in a circular motion on your lips.
  2. Repeat this process nightly and you should notice, smooth pink lips within weeks.

Rose

What is lovelier than a rose? Your lips after trying this treatment! To achieve a rosy glow in your lips, why not go right to the source? Rose water contains anti-inflammatory properties that soothe lips in distress.

Rose water also helps reverse sun damage, which is one of the main contributing factors of dark lips. The antioxidants in this treatment will help regenerate new skin cells, but it also soothes, moisturizes, and cools.

  • Consider adding rose and honey to your daily routine. Mix a couple drops of rose water in some honey and rub onto your lips. Apply three to four times a day.
  • Another way to use rose in your lip care routine is to make a paste.
  1. Soak a couple rose petals in some milk for one hour.
  2. After an hour, mix the rose petals and milk until it forms into a paste.
  3. Add a couple drops of honey and a pinch of saffron into the mixture.
  4. Apply the paste and leave on for 15 minutes. Repeat twice a day everyday to maintain smooth pink lips.

Honey

If you’re looking to turn back the clock or you just want young looking pink lips, honey is your best bet. This home remedy not only moisturizes your lips, but also helps restore aging lips back to their natural pink color.mig2 Honey Recipe to Lighten Your Lips

  1. Before bed, gently rub honey on your lips and leave on over night.
  2. Rinse off when you wake up.
  3. Apply nightly to maintain pink and moisturized lips.

Almond Oil

This remedy works as a triple threat for dark lips: softening, moisturizing, and lightening. The vitamin E content of almond oil protects from ultraviolet damage while the b-vitamins and minerals lighten skin and rejuvenates vulnerable skin.

  1. Mix five drops of almond oil with one tablespoon of honey.
  2. Apply whenever your lips feel dry and need a boost of moisture.
  1. Mix equal parts almond oil and castor oil and massage onto your lips for a surge of moisture and for even colored skin.

Pomegranate

If you want to nourish dehydrated lips while restoring them to their natural pink color, consider trying pomegranate.

  1. Crush one tablespoon of pomegranate seeds.
  2. Mix with equal amounts of carrot juice and beetroot juice.
  3. Apply to lips but don’t rinse off.
  4. Do this remedy daily.

Another way to use pomegranate to lighten your lips is to make a paste.

  1. Mix one tablespoon of crushed pomegranate seeds with rose water and some milk cream.
  2. Stir until the mixture becomes a paste.
  3. Apply the paste directly to your lips and gently rub in a circular motion.
  4. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
  5. Repeat daily.

Berries: Berries such as raspberries and strawberries are packed full of vitamins and minerals that keep lips smooth, healthy, moisturized, and light in color. The antioxidants of these berries help repair UV damage and promote skin cell renewal.

To use raspberries as a lip lightener

  1. Mix a half-tablespoon of raspberry juice with some Aloe Vera gel and honey and mix into a paste.
  2. Apply this paste to your lips and leave on for ten minutes.
  3. Rinse off paste with lukewarm water.
  4. For best results, use this remedy three or four times a week.

If you’re a smoker, you may notice a darkening of the lips. Fortunately, strawberries can restore your lips to their natural pink color.

  1. Mix six crushed strawberries with two teaspoons of baking soda and stir well
  2. Apply this mixture to your lips and leave on overnight.
  3. You can use this treatment nightly.

If you don’t want the commitment of an overnight treatment, you can apply strawberry juice directly to your lips with a cotton ball. Leave on for ten minutes and then wash off.

Beetroot

Beetroot Juice

Beetroot juice is a quick and easy way to give your lips and rosy pink glow. Rich in antioxidants, beetroot juice encourages the production and repair of healthy skin cells, while the vitamin A content promotes blood circulation.

  • Before bed each night, apply fresh beetroot juice to your lips and leave on overnight. Wash off the next morning with lukewarm water.
  • If you’re looking for a less time consuming remedy, try mixing equal parts beetroot juice and carrot juice together and apply directly to your lips. Leave on for ten minutes and rinse. You can do this treatment daily for a couple weeks to notice results.

Cucumber

Cucumbers are famous for lightening the delicate skin underneath your eyes. As it turns out, cucumbers are also capable of lightening the skin of your lips to a lighter shade.

  • Simply rub cucumber slices to your lips, making sure they absorb the juice. Do this treatment nightly before bed.

potatoes

Potatoes

Potatoes are another great way to combat lip darkness. Potatoes are effective in lightening lips and the appearance of scars.

  • Just like cucumbers, rub a slice of potato against your lips before bedtime and leave on overnight. Rinse off in the morning. Do this treatment nightly.

Some Other Helpful Tips

  • Exfoliate your lips prior to treatment so they fully absorb the benefits of each remedy.
  • Always wear lip balm with sunscreen when heading outdoors to prevent UV damage.
  • Consider wearing lip balm that has vitamin E to keep your lips moisturized.
  • Avoid lip care products and cosmetics that have artificial dyes, fragrances, and flavors.
  • Always keep lips hydrated by drinking enough water.
  • Limit your intake of caffeine. Drinking too much coffee or soda can dry out and darken your lips.
  • Quit smoking, which can prematurely age your lips and darken them.
