Hemorrhoids may not be a normal topic of conversation however they are a common problem, affecting about 50% of people before they reach the age of 50. Many people delay treatment because they are embarrassed, waiting for the problem to resolve itself.
However, there is no need to needlessly suffer any longer. Essential oils not only soothe painful symptoms, but they help expedite the process of healing as well.
What are Hemorrhoids?
The truth is, we all have hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are the veins found in our rectum and anal canal, which aid in stool control. Things go awry when these veins become inflamed and swollen, which may cause pain and bleeding.
These inflamed veins can be internal or external. When the veins become external, we experience discomfort, which calls for immediate treatment.
Why Essential Oils?
Essential oils are recommended for the treatment of hemorrhoids because they immediately address the problem in the following ways:
- Essential oils reduce inflammation.
Many essential oils are known for their anti-inflammatory effects. By using essential oils, you can alleviate the swelling of the inflamed blood vessels and the surrounding irritated tissue. - Essential oils alleviate the pain, itching, and burning associated with hemorrhoids.
When you are experiencing hemorrhoids, the slightest touch can send shockwaves of pain. When hemorrhoids are inflamed, chemical agents are released in the body to reduce the swelling, making them extra sensitive to touch. Essential oils offer pain relief by reducing this hypersensitivity. - Essential oils shrink blood vessels back to their normal size.
When the blood vessels in your anal canal and rectum become inflamed, they are called piles. The pain of these piles can be relieved by shrinking veins back down to size with the help of essential oils. Essential oils not only relieve swollen veins, but they alleviate the surrounding inflamed tissue as well, offering immediate pain relief. - Essential oils stop the bleeding by healing the rupture.
Excessive swelling can tear the skin, causing quite a bit of bleeding. Fortunately, essential oils can seal the tear and reduce the swelling responsible for causing the discomfort and torn skin. - Essential oils improve blood circulation.
One of the main causes of inflammation and bleeding hemorrhoids is poor blood circulation. Sluggish blood circulation causes veins to swell and rupture. Essential oils quickly restores proper blood circulation and to help keep a healthy flow of blood to the anal canal. - Applied topically, essential oils are safe for pregnant women.
Unfortunately, hemorrhoids are a common problem for pregnant women, especially in the 3rd trimester. Women may either experience hemorrhoids for the first time during pregnancy, or if they have suffered from them before, they will most certainly experience them while with child.
If you are pregnant and seeking hemorrhoid relief, mix a couple drops of lavender oil, cypress, and geranium oil with coconut oil and apply the blend directly to the affected area. Adding the mixture to a spray bottle is another effective, alternative solution to get immediate relief. To ensure maximum safety, please discuss using essential oils on your hemorrhoids with a physician before proceeding with the treatment.
